Stan Lawler

Member , British Artist Blacksmiths Association (BABA)

The introduction to the National School of Blacksmithing at Holme Lacy and a route into the wider BABA membership.

Who they are

Stan Lawler is a long-standing member of the British Artist Blacksmiths Association (BABA), the UK’s main professional body for working blacksmiths. BABA represents working smiths across the country, runs national gatherings, and connects practitioners across the artistic and structural ends of the trade.

What they have contributed

Stan made the introduction to the National School of Blacksmithing at Holme Lacy - the largest training forge in Europe, founded in 1946, with 42 side-blast coke forges. The visit is booked for September 2026 (rescheduled from August because the forge runs hot in summer). Stan is also a route into the wider BABA membership, which the archive will need over the next two years for blacksmith subjects across multiple regions.
